The updated and complete details of IBPS Clerks Common Written Exam (CWE) for recruitment of bank clerks in India.



  • A candidate applying for clerk jobs through IBPS CWE  must be either
    • a citizen of India or
    • a subject of Nepal or 
    • a subject of Bhutan or
    • a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
    • a person of India origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to the above categories except the first category, should be a candidate in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. 

Age limit eligible for IBPS clerk recruitment

  • A candidate desiring for participating the IBPS CWE for Clerks must be between 20 to 28 years.
Relaxation in upper age limit is applicable as indicated below.

Educational Qualifications for ibps clerk:

  • Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or equivalent degree recognized by the Central Govt of India.
  • The candidate must have obtained the degree on the date of registration and must indicate the percentage of marks of degree examination while registering online.
  • Computer Knowledge: Operating and Working knowledge in computer systems is mandatory ( candidates should have Certificate/Diploma/Degree in computer operations/Language/should have studied Computer/Information Technology as one of the subjects in the High School /College/Institute.
  • Proficiency of the official language of the state for which vacancies the candidate wishes to apply is desirable. 
  • Ex-Servicemen applicants who do not possess the above civil examination qualifications should be matriculate Ex-Servicemen who have obtained the Army Special Certificate of Education or corresponding certificate in the Navy or Air Force after having completed not less than 15 years of service in the Armed Forces of the Union as on the date specified by IBPS for this matter.

Examination Syllabus for ibps clerk cwe:

Common Written Exam for Bank Clerks comprised three stages viz.
  • Preliminary Exam of one hour duration.
  • Mains Exam of two hours duration.
  • Interview

Preliminary Exam consists of the following sections.
  • English Language of 30 questions with 30 marks.
  • Numerical of 35 questions with 35 marks.
  • Reasoning Ability of 35 questions with 35 marks.

Main examination will consist the following sections.
  • Reasoning (40 questions, 40 marks)
  • English Language ( 40 questions, 40 marks)
  • Quantitative Aptitude (40 questions, 40 marks)
  • General Awareness (with special reference to banking industry) consisting 40 questions with one mark each.
  • Computer Knowledge (40 marks consisting 40 questions) 
Total: 200 questions, 200 marks. That is, each question carries one mark.

Penalty for wrong answer:

One-fourth or 0.25 of the marks allotted will be deducted for each wrong answer. If a questions is leaved blank, i.e. if a question has not been attempted and candidates leaves the answer unmarked, there won't be penalty for that question. 


Candidates successful in the main examination of the IBPS clerk exam will be called for an interview comprising 100 marks out of which 40 percent (35 percent for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EXMN) is the minimum passing mark.
