Traffic Apprentice (CA)
  •  Job prospect of Traffic Apprentices in Indian Railways
    • Selected candidates as Traffic Apprentices undergo training for two years in Operations (Traffic) department. 
    • During the training they are given hands on training as Station Masters, Section Controller, Traffic Inspectors, Guards, Yard Masters etc. 
    • After successful completion of the training, they are placed as Station Masters, Section Controller, Traffic Inspectors. 
    • It is one of the most challenging jobs available in India. One has to be very productive and accurate on the work as this involves control of the railway traffic. He is responsible for effective control of the huge traffic. 
  •  Selection process 
    • Single stage computer based examination and document verification.
  • Educational qualification 
    • Essential qualification: Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a recognized University or Institute. 
    • Desirable qualification: Diploma in Rail Transport and Management, Transport Economics, Multi-Modal Transport awarded by Institute of Rail Transport, Rail Bhawan, New Delhi.
  • Promotion prospects of Traffic Apprentices
    1. Station Master/Section Controller/Traffic Inspector.
    2. Deputy Station Superintendent/Chief Controller.
    3. Managerial posts in administration departments based on limited departmental examinations.
    4. Further career path exists as Asst. Operational Managers and Divisional Operations Manager.

Commercial Apprentices (CA)
  • Job prospect of Commercial Apprentices in Indian Railways
    •  Selected candidates are given two years training as multi-skilled supervisors in commercial departments.
    • After training, they are placed commercial departments as Chief Clerks/Inspectors (Goods/Parcel/Catering/Commercial) etc.
    • They are engaged in revenue generating sections.

    • Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or Institute.
    • Added qualification as mentioned in TA

    • Single stage computer based examination followed by Document Verification.

Pay scale : For both posts, the existing pay band is PB-II.
